Hickory Grove United
Baseball, Coach Pitch and Tee Ball
Program
Thank you for your interest in the Hickory Grove United Methodist Church Baseball Program. The program is dedicated to showing the love of God while teaching fundamentals about Baseball and sportsmanship. For many of you this may be your child’s first experience in a team sport. Fantastic! We are here to enrich your child with a warm supportive environment to explore their athletic side. Please feel free to contact our Recreation Ministry Board of Directors, our Ministry Staff and especially your coach at any time. We welcome you and expect you to have an excellent season of Baseball.

Baseball - Coaches plan to rotate fielding positions to ensure all children get to play each position and hit in a different order. As the season progresses the older teams may become more selective in player positions. Each child will play in at least 2 innings and bat each game.
Coach Pitch is not much different than baseball we just have our coach pitching to our team. Each batter will get up to 6 pitches to try to hit. There are no walks and if they miss the 6th pitch they are out. Coaches plan to rotate fielding positions to ensure all children get to play each position and hit in a different order.
Tee Ball is different than baseball. We will play 3 innings. Each team will have 3 times in the field and 3 times batting. Each child will hit and play in the field each inning. There are no outs and score is not recorded. When a child hits the ball they run to first base and stay there until the next child hits the ball then they will run to second. Eventually they will run home. When the last batter comes up, they hit the ball and everyone on a base runs around the bases and to home just like a grand slam home run. The child who fields the ball from the hit will throw to first base and the first base person will tag the bag but no one gets out. After the last batter hits the teams switch fielding and hitting. Coaches plan to rotate fielding positions to ensure all children get to play each position and hit in a different order. To get all the children in the field we also have some different positions. Like 2 pitchers one on the left and one on the right.
All teams will have a team prayer before each game and practice and team cheer. We will praise the effort of each child remembering that we are here to have fun and learn. We look forward to a rewarding season with you and your child.
Sincerely,
HGUMC Recreation Ministry
